( NewsNation ) — Around a quarter of Americans polled by Realtor.com say local and national politics highly influence their decision where to live.

While 23% of people overall say they determine their location by politics, that number increases to 33% when it comes to millennials specifically.

“While Gen Z is known for being very politically active when it comes to making decisions about where to live, more millennials are likely to be in a phase of life where they are thinking about the type of community in which they want to buy a home and grow their roots,” Hannah Jones, a senior economic research analyst for Realtor.com, said in a statement. “It makes sense that millennials, more than any other age group, think it is very important to live in a place in which most people share their political views.”

About 38% of those surveyed said their political views align with most of their neighbors.

“Choosing where to live is often a complex decision, and for many Americans, especially millennials, local and national politics are factors that influence where they live,” Danielle Hale, Realtor.com’s chief economist, said.

Some, Hale mentioned, go as far as moving to find people whose views match their own. About 14% of people, when asked about their latest move, said they went to an area that vibed with their political preferences.

“With both local and national politicians making decisions that impact daily life, both socially and fiscally, it makes sense that many would prefer to live in areas where the politics align with their own beliefs,” Hale said.
