ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – “Puertas Fronterizas/Border Doors” is the Albuquerque Museum’s newest exhibition. The exhibition features student work done between 2019 and 2014 centered around symbolic doors and how they relate to immigrant experience.

The mixed-media doors are collages and paintings of certain issues relating to immigration; A.I. and immigration, Covid-19 and essential workers, family separation, superheroes and immigration. Claudio Pérez, a Spanish teacher at Sandia Prep, has been taking students from his advanced Spanish-language students to El Paso since 2014. The students interact first-hand with immigrants and advocates at the Cristo Rey Border Immersion Program. The students then illustrate a series of doors to tell the stories of the people they met.

The exhibition is open through May 4, 2025. For more information on the Albuquerque Museum, click here.
