BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) — The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) is warning the community about an increase in scam calls using their number.

BCSO said scammers are using their office’s phone numbers to deceive residents into giving out personal information or even asking them to make payments over the phone.

    Story continues below

The sheriff’s office is reminding residents that no deputy, detective, or BCSO employee would ever request payments or ask for sensitive information over the phone.

BCSO said if you receive a call from someone claiming to be a deputy, and they demand payment for court fees or warrants, hang up immediately.
