ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Albuquerque BioPark has said goodbye to one of its western lowland gorillas.

The ABQ BioPark said 42-year-old female Matadi has been moved to the Sedgwick County Zoo in Wichita, Kansas.

Matadi is joining a senior troop of gorillas and is being reunited with her half-sister.

Officials with the BioPark said they wanted Matadi’s golden years filled with health and happiness, and seeing her sister is a great way for that to happen.

At the BioPark, Madati was known for her protective and maternal instincts, as well as being a mentor to younger gorillas. The zoo in Kansas said she has settled into her new home nicely.
