    Santa Barbara Co. Sheriff's deputies respond to call of barricaded suspect

    UPDATE (2:30 p.m.) — The Santa Barbara Sheriff's Office and the City of Goleta Police published a press release this afternoon with more details on the incident in Goleta.

    Authorities say that they responded to a report of an assault just after 8:30 Saturday morning. When deputies arrived, they contacted an adult male victim with serious injuries. The victim was transported to an area hospital and is expected to survive.

    Deputies identified the suspect of the attack as 41-year-old Adam Unmuth, who they say was armed with a knife.

    The Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Team and Crisis Negotiations Team contained the scene for several hours while deputies authored an arrest warrant.

    Officials say that a Sheriff’s K9, kinetic projectile, and chemical agents were used in an attempt to get Unmuth to surrender.

    Just before 1 p.m., police forced entry into the room and took the suspect into custody. He was transported to a hospital for medical attention, and will later be booked into jail.

    Police say booking charges and bail amount are pending.

    UPDATE (1:40 p.m.) — Just after 1 p.m., the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office said in an X post that the suspect was taken in custody.

    The update came an hour after officials said that the subject was still refusing to comply.

    Police say deputies are still working in the area.

    ORIGINAL STORY — The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office is asking the public to avoid the area of Fairview Ave. and Hollister Ave. in Goleta due to a law enforcement response.

    Sheriff's officials say just after 8:30 a.m., deputies responded to a call of a felony battery suspect. That person has reportedly barricaded himself inside his room at Buena Tierra, a supportive housing facility for the homeless.
