A 12-year-old boy died early Saturday in a house fire in Independence.

An Independence Fire Department spokesperson says crews were dispatched around 3:05 a.m. to a house fire in the 1300 block of E. Salisbury Road.

Crews arrived on scene to heavy smoke and a report that someone was still inside the house.

Firefighters made entry into the house and pulled the boy out. Paramedics started life-saving measures on the boy but he was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by IFD and the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office.
