SALINA, Kan. (KSNW) – Salina city leaders and residents are talking about ways to address homelessness in their community.

They heard from the McPherson Housing Coalition at the K-State Salina Civic Lecture Series about how the McPherson community has created a tiny home village to help people out of homelessness.

“That’s what I found interesting is that McPherson is a little bit smaller than we are, and they’re able to do it, so shouldn’t we be able to,” Michelle Martin from the City of Salina community relations division said.

This was a way for them to learn about what’s working from others.

“They had a perspective that our community could look at and see what might work, what might be different for our community and at least engage more voices in the process,” Deb Marseline, the K-State Salina assistant dean for diversity and leadership, said.

The executive director of the McPherson Housing Coalition says they’ve seen an increase in retired adults on a fixed income needing housing.
