WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — On Monday, a judge gave a Wichita man the maximum sentence in an animal cruelty case from two years ago. Logan Cavender, 31, will spend 13 years behind bars.

The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office said the 10 animal cruelty charges came from the discovery of 10 dismembered cats that were discarded in a rural area of the county in 2022.

Prosecutors said the sentencing also includes two counts of stalking and one count of breach of privacy.

The two stalking charges involved a woman in Cavender’s life and a babysitter.

Investigators found out about the privacy breach while investigating the animal cruelty case. They found a videotape that Cavender secretly recorded of a family member in 2020.

Cavender entered a no-contest plea to all 13 counts in May.

District Court Judge Eric Williams convicted him and sentenced him to 13 years, saying Cavender was a threat to public safety.

The judge also said the breach of privacy was sexually motivated, so Cavender will have to register as a sex offender when he is eventually freed.
