PRETTY PRAIRIE, Kan. (KSNW) — A Reno County Public Works employee has died, and three others were seriously hurt in a crash Wednesday near Pretty Prairie.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says the accident happened on eastbound Pretty Prairie Road, just east of High Point Road, about 4 miles east of Kansas Highway 11. The patrol says a public works employee was driving a county road striping vehicle east on Pretty Prairie Road when, for an unknown reason, he left the roadway to the right, overcorrected and reentered the road.

The driver overcorrected again, leaving the road. KHP says as the vehicle reentered the road, it rolled, eventually coming to rest on the driver’s side.

David Serviss, 49, of Arlington, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and another passenger were transported to Wichita hospitals with serious injuries, while another passenger was taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center in serious condition.

The accident was investigated by the Kansas Highway Patrol and the Reno County Sheriff’s Office.

Wichita police release name of drowning victim

According to the county’s website, Serviss was the Superintendent of Reno County Public Works Road and Bridge Division .

Reno County says the Public Works Department will remain closed until Monday. The Reno County Planning Commission will hold Thursday’s meeting at 4:30 p.m. in the Reno County Public Works Department building, 600 Scott Blvd., in South Hutchinson.
