    Wichita man sentenced for trying to profit from the sexual exploitation of a child

    WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A man who faced human trafficking charges in Wichita has pleaded to lesser charges, and a judge sentenced him to about seven and a half years in prison.

    Officers arrested Alan Vonshay Jones in December 2021. The court sealed the case, including the original charges against him.

    But this June, Jones, 36, agreed to a plea deal, and the court released an amended complaint against him. The complaint listed 22 charges. Jones pleaded guilty to seven of them, while fifteen were dismissed:

    • Count 1: Aggravated human trafficking — Dismissed
    • Count 2: Aggravated human trafficking — Dismissed
    • Count 3: Attempted robbery — Guilty plea
    • Count 4: Battery — Dismissed
    • Count 5: Criminal damage to property — Dismissed
    • Count 6: Attempted commercial sexual exploitation of a child — Guilty plea
    • Count 7: Criminal threat — Guilty plea
    • Count 8: Criminal damage to property — Guilty plea
    • Count 9: Aggravated human trafficking — Dismissed
    • Count 10: Aggravated human trafficking — Dismissed
    • Count 11: Aggravated human trafficking — Dismissed
    • Count 12: Aggravated human trafficking — Dismissed
    • Count 13: Rape — Dismissed
    • Count 14: Aggravated criminal sodomy — Dismissed
    • Count 15: Aggravated assault — Guilty plea
    • Count 16: Criminal threat — Dismissed
    • Count 17: Battery — Dismissed
    • Count 18: Theft — Dismissed
    • Count 19: Promoting the sale of sexual relations — Guilty plea
    • Count 20: Promoting the sale of sexual relations — Dismissed
    • Count 21: Promoting the sale of sexual relations — Guilty plea
    • Count 22: Aggravated battery — Dismissed

    District Judge Christopher Magana sentenced Jones to 92 months. When he is released, Jones will have lifetime postrelease supervision.

    Former teacher gets prison for aggravated indecent liberties with a child

    The judge also ordered him to pay $4,961.41 in restitution to the victims, $2,500 to the Human Trafficking Assistance Fund, and $800 to the Sedgwick County Child Advocacy Center.
