Tanganyika named one of the best animal encounters in the U.S., according to Newsweek

GODDARD, Kan. (KSNW) — Tanganyika Wildlife Park received second place in the 2024 Newsweek Readers’ Choice Awards for Best Animal Encounter . The award was based on a public vote and expert panel review.

Tanganyika offers many encounters , including hand-feeding giraffes, walking alongside kangaroos, enjoying a swim with penguins, sunbathing with a Burmese python, a pygmy hippo art adventure, meet and greets with various animals, and behind-the-scenes experiences.

“We are incredibly honored to receive this award from Newsweek,” said Matt Fouts, Director of Tanganyika Wildlife Park. “Our team is dedicated to creating unforgettable experiences that foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for wildlife. To be recognized on a national level, especially by the public and experts in the field, is a testament to the hard work and passion that goes into making Tanganyika a one-of-a-kind destination.”

The award not only highlights the wildlife park’s animal encounters but also highlights its role in wildlife preservation and education.

“We can’t forget to shout out some of our friends who also made the list. Wilstem Wildlife Park, Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch, and Bearizona Wildlife Park are facilities we network with at our annual zoo conference. We’re excited to be in the top 10 with them as well,” said LynnLee Schmidt, COO.

Tanganyika is located at 1000 S. Hawkins Lane in Goddard and is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
