WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The National Baseball Congress will operate independently in 2025.

The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission and the NBC Baseball Foundation announced Thursday that NBC will operate independently starting January 1. The organizations have been operating together since 2020.

The foundation and tournament will continue to be led by Katie Woods, who became director of the tournament in 2022. It will be governed by the NBC Foundation’s board of directors.

“As we look at the history of the National Baseball Congress as a national organization supporting amateur baseball across the country, we see the impact the NBC has had and can have,” Woods said in a news release. “This independence gives us new opportunities to connect communities through baseball, from history and alumni to youth programming and, of course, elevating top amateur prospects through the NBC World Series.”

2025 will mark the 90th year of the NBC World Series. It was founded in 1935 by Raymond “Hap” Dumont, with the first series being held in the then-newly constructed Lawrence Stadium. In 1978, the stadium was posthumously renamed in his honor to Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

The World Series is now played at Eck Stadium on the campus of Wichita State University. In 2023, the NBC Foundation and WSU signed an agreement to keep the tournament at Eck Stadium for two more years.
