GREAT BEND, Kan. (KSNW) — Parents in the Great Bend area who want their kids to take piano lessons can help Barton Community College students in the process.

The school has launched a Community Music School Program. Children ages 6 to 18 will be paired with a Barton student who will provide one-on-one piano lessons.

The cost starts at $15 for a 30-minute lesson. That whole fee will go to the Barton student in the form of a scholarship.

Dr. Alejandro Avila is the instructor of Barton’s Keyboard Studies and director of Accompaniment. He said the college recognized the demand for piano instruction in the area.

“The Community Music School is a win-win for everyone involved,” he said. “Not only do the children receive valuable piano lessons, but the tuition they pay goes directly towards scholarships for the college students, helping to support their education and future careers in music.”

Parents can enroll students now. The lessons begin in September. To learn more, visit shows.bartonccc.edu or call Avila at 620-792-9384.
