The last week of August starts with summertime heat. High temperatures will be in the 90s with a few triple digits sprinkled in.

The day ahead will be humid too. The dangerous combination of high heat and humidity will cause heat indices to reach as high as 105 to 110. That is what it will feel like during the hottest part of the afternoon.

While a Heat Advisory is in effect there could be a few storms that pop up to the north and west. Storms could begin to develop any time after 3 pm or 4 pm.

After sundown, the best chance for storms will be to the west. Isolated strong to severe storms will be possible. Damaging wind gusts and large hail are the main threats.

Showers and storms will lose their strength and fizzle out during the overnight. This will eventually lead to a dry start to Tuesday.

It will take a few more days for the heat to break but once it does it will be worth the wait. Temperatures dip below average just in time for Labor Day Weekend.

More late-day storm chances continue on Tuesday. This activity will also continue to avoid the Wichita Metro as it mainly impacts areas to the north and west.

So far, severe weather is not expected. An isolated severe storm risk currently sits across northeast Kansas including Salina, Topeka, Emporia, and Manhattan.

Wednesday will be a similar day with rain remaining possible to the north and west during the evening. Chances finally start to line up better for South Central Kansas by late Thursday.

If you have plans to be outdoors during the holiday weekend, keep a close eye on the forecast due to daily rain chances.
