BUTLER COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) — The 14-year-old girls who were arrested two weeks ago in a 2023 murder case have been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Joanne Johnson, 93.

Because they are juveniles, the court is only releasing their initials: I.H. and A.W.

Johnson was found dead inside her home at 1711 Robbins St. in Augusta on Sept. 3, 2023. Authorities said at the time that she was killed sometime between Sept. 2 and Sept. 3.

On Thursday morning, a judge read the charges against the teens. Pleas of not guilty were entered for both girls.

The judge denied a motion to release the affidavit and charging documents, so other details about the case will not be released.

The next hearing for I.H. is Oct. 31 at 9:30 a.m., and the next hearing for A.W. is Oct. 31 at 10:30 a.m.
