WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Wichita Heights Falcons are gearing up for the 2024 football season. They look to collect some big wins and are hard at work to make that happen.

After finishing 5-4 in 2023, this group was hit hard with 24 graduates. However, there are many players who have been in the program since they were freshmen, who head coach Dominick Dingle says have developed well over the years.

He says there are some lesser-known guys who may have a big impact on the field. The Falcons have been locked in all summer as they search for another winning season.

“They’ve done everything that we’ve asked of them,” said Dingle. “They’ve continued to come to work each and every day. They continue to take coaching, be coachable and just probably one of the more tighter groups that we’ve had here at Wichita Heights.”

Dingle says the team is well-rounded, with strengths on offense, defense, and the kicking game.

The players feel very unified in their mutual goal of continuing to get better, with the hope that their progress will lead them to a deep playoff run.

While there are not many seniors on the team, the junior class has stepped up to help guide the younger players.

“We have a lot of juniors that are stepping up like me, Darius, Zane, Te’Mar[ious]. We have a lot of guys that are like kind of stepping into a leadership role earlier than they’re supposed to. So I would say a younger leadership,” said junior guard and tackle Joshua Ibidokun.

“Chemistry is building day by day. I mean, we work hard. We work hard every day to show people, and people are already doubting us. So we just got to come here and play hard every time. We all know how to play off of each other, read blocks, who to block and when to block someone,” said junior fullback Darius Rogers.

The Falcons open the season on Friday, Sept. 6 at East. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
