EL DORADO, Kan. (KSNW)—This Labor Day, Kansans are enjoying near-perfect weather for this time of year and taking advantage of all that the state has to offer, including our beautiful state parks.

At El Dorado State Park, the weather is cooling down as people return to the road to prepare for work or school on Tuesday. So, things have already started to get quiet.

However, you could still enjoy the lake’s waves peacefully, reflecting on all that summer had to offer. Park officials tell KSN that this was a smooth sailing weekend with a turnout of 40,000-50,000 people at El Dorado State Park.

“Picture-perfect weather made it an outstanding weekend to come out and just enjoy yourselves,” said Jacob Riley, State Park Manager at El Dorado State Park.

“The turnout was extremely well. All of our utility sites were full, our cabins are booked, and primitive is actually pretty high,” said Linda Lanterman, Director of Kansas State Parks.

They also shared that most people who visited the state park were responsible on land and on water and were respectful of each other.

This holiday weekend’s beautiful weather made up for some of the heat we have had this summer. Additionally, El Dorado State Park has a decent water level, allowing boats to sail around the lake.

“We are 2.77 foot below conservation pool. That’s not terribly low,” said Riley. “Last year we were down to almost seven foot low. It was about six and three-quarters foot. So, we’re still not even close to where we were last year. We’ve got a good amount of precipitation that’s rolled in over the last few months,”.”

He also shared that there were no major incidents of note and that it seemed like everyone came out to enjoy some downtime and reflect on this unofficial end of summer.
