WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — On Monday morning, nearly 100 veterans boarded a plane for Washington, D.C., as the Kansas Honor Flight celebrated its 100th flight.

Kendall Bruns is an Air Force veteran on his first honor flight. He is eager to see the memorials.

“I’ve lost several friends that are on the wall, and I look forward to seeing their names and paying tribute to them,” Bruns said.

The first honor flight took off in 2012 and has sent over 4,000 veterans to D.C.

President of the honor flight Mike VanCampen says that back then, they had 30 veterans and few resources.

“We’ve been grateful from the public across Kansas that has supported the mission,” VanCampen said.

He has already scheduled four flights on Southwest Airlines next year. Click here to apply for a free trip.
