WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A judge has sentenced a Wichita man to almost five years in prison for the death of Sebastian Crawford, 25.

The shooting happened around 11 a.m. on July 1 at Rockborough Apartments, near the intersection of Douglas Avenue and Rock Road.

Prosecutors say Peter McKinney, 22, was handling a loaded handgun in a bedroom of the apartment he shared with Crawford. McKinney told investigators he thought the gun was unloaded, and he pulled the trigger.

The shot hit and killed Crawford.

The district attorney’s office initially charged McKinney with second-degree murder . Crawford later agreed to plea to voluntary manslaughter.

Judge Sean Hatfield imposed a 59-month sentence and ordered McKinney to register as a violent offender for the next 15 years after his release.
