WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Kansas State High School Athletic Association Board of Directors approved several changes to high school sports.

The changes to the high school basketball season will go into effect for the 2025-2026 school year. High school basketball teams will be allowed to play 23 games, three more than previous, during the regular season.

High school baseball and softball players will be allowed to play in 32 games in the regular season, six more than previously. Each varsity squad can schedule 26 games, while sub-varsity may schedule 20 games, but players may participate in no more than 32 games.

That rule change is effective for the spring season this school year.

Wrestlers, regardless of gender, may now participate in no more than four events, any combination of double dual, quad triple dual and/or one-day tournament that begins before 3 p.m. for each gender. This change is effective this school year.
