“Upon arrival, the victim reported that she had been involved in a verbal altercation with her child’s father, which escalated into physical violence,” Andrew Ford, WPD spokesperson, said. “The suspect reportedly assaulted the victim multiple times, cut her hand with a knife, and fired two rounds inside the home while threatening to kill her. This incident occurred in the presence of their three children.”

The mother left the home with two of her children and called 911. The third child, a 5-year-old, had been allegedly taken by Strong, who left in a vehicle.

The Amber Alert was issued just after 7:45 p.m. Shortly after, the vehicle Strong was driving was found abandoned in a separate location.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation announced at 8:45 p.m. that the child was found and was physically safe with WPD.

Strong is next due in court on Oct. 7. He is free on a $250,000 bond with certain conditions, including electronic monitoring with pre-trial services.
