ROSE HILL, Kan. (KSNW) — Family and friends of 20-year-old Brody Griffitts said he would give the shirt off his back to help a stranger.

His girlfriend tells KSN’s Derek Lytle that their son Ropyr just turned one, and it is painful to come to terms with Brody not getting the chance to watch him grow up.

Two weeks ago, out for a ride with friends, Brody Griffitts’ motorcycle crashed, causing him to hit his head on the pavement. 14 days later, he died from his injuries after a fight in the ICU.

Grace Mohr, his girlfriend, said a loss like this is all too familiar.

“My mom passed away when I was five, so I always had my dad; this is hitting my dad hard, too, because he’s seeing me have to go through the same thing that he went through,” said Mohr.

Grace and Brody had plans to build their dream home together. She said those around her are making sure she and their son Ropyr are okay.

“I know that I have a great support system to help me with anything I need to help Roper achieve what Brodie would want him to achieve,” said Mohr.

Honks for Brody, passing the family home. Brody’s dad, Keven, spends each day by his side at the hospital. He said the support from a fully packed waiting room shows them Brody’s impact.

“There was so many people that were praying for him, just alone in the hospital, we had both wait rooms completely filled,” said Brody’s Father, Keven Griffitts.

Brody’s mom, Cara, believes he made the most of his short time on Earth.

“All of his life, all of his dreams, that he had, he was just starting to live his life as an adult, but I know he loved hard in his 20 years,” said Brody’s Mother, Cara Stinnett.

His friends are gathering together for one final ride in his honor Thursday evening.

Brody’s family said he always wore his helmet but made the choice not to this one time.

“God can bring good out of these terrible situations, and if someone hears this and doesn’t wear a helmet, and it saves their life, I know Brodie would be thrilled by that,” said Brody’s Mother, Cara Stinnett.

The family is raising funds for Brody’s funeral and his son’s future. You can find their GoFundMe here .

His friends had plans to open a mechanic shop with him, they hope to honor him down the road.
