LOUISVILLE, Ky. (KSNW) – The trial began on Monday for a man charged with hitting and killing a member of a Kansas family.

Ava, Creek, Amy and Trey Jones were standing on a Louisville, Kentucky sidewalk in 2022 when a car crashed into them, killing Trey and hurting Ava and Amy.

Michael Hurley is charged with murder, assault, and driving under the influence.

Amy Jones told Louisville station WDRB-TV that she and Ava will testify on Thursday. This will be the first time they see Hurley in person.

“I think I will feel a little angry looking at him, thinking about how his choices, his bad choices, ruined our whole family. So, that will not be a great feeling,” Amy Jones said.

Customers want answers, claim they were swindled by Wichita-based pool builder

Amy says her family will never have closure because they will never get Trey, her husband and children’s father, back and says she and Ava will never be fully healed.

Ava, who KSN News has followed since high school , including when she signed up to play for the Hawkeyes , has retired from basketball after talking with team doctors and athletic trainers .

They talk about drugs and how bad or deadly they are for you and everyone around you but seldom do you see DUI's be imprisoned in the same ways. They even go after cigarettes more in their focus on the young folks and stopped commercials advertising them, but every day there's commercials for booze. Why? Bc the government likes their booze. With drinking you lose self control, but cigarettes doesn't have the same effect. Think about that.
