Victims of ‘Extended Vehicle Warranty’ scam being compensated

WASHINGTON (KSNW) — More than $449,000 in refunds are being sent to consumers who were victims of American Vehicle Protection Corp.

The company sold expensive extended vehicle warranties through what the Federal Trade Commission calls deceptive telemarketing practices. The company pretended to represent car dealers and manufacturers in telemarketing calls to consumers where they claimed to offer “bumper to bumper” protection for their vehicles, which was false.

To settle the charges, the company agreed to stop making outgoing telemarketing calls and from engaging in extended automobile warranty sales and pay a settlement. The FTC says it is sending refund checks out to 18,255 people scammed by American Vehicle Protection Corp.

If you receive a refund check, the FTC recommends you cash or deposit it within 90 days. Anyone with questions about the refund process should contact the refund administrator, Analytics, at 833-889-7400 or visit the Frequently Asked Questions section on the FTC website.
