TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNW) — Evergy says its crews are heading back home.

Evergy crews deployed over a week ago to assist with recovery from Hurricane Helene’s devastation across the Southeast. The crews have been assisting Kentucky Power and Appalachian Power in restoring the region’s power grid.

The company shared a message they received from a grateful resident of Virginia:

“I noticed several of your electric crews in Russell Co, Virginia, an area devastated by Hurricane Helene. I want to thank Evergy for sending these crews to assist in restoring electricity to the area that has been without power for days. The sacrifices these crews have made in traveling to this mountainous area and being away from their loved ones is greatly appreciated. It has been hard work for them to repair the damage in this difficult terrain and the distance they have to travel each day to reach the areas needing their services.”

Evergy praised their crews for their outstanding job over the last eight days, completing several large projects. One of those projects included restoring a 3-phase line system supplying power to cell and radio towers on a mountain.

Around 120 linecrews and support staff from Evergy joined over 50,000 electrical workers from 30 states, Washington D.C., and Canada to help restore power to the southeast following Helene.
