WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Arkansas City High School boys basketball coach CJ Jennings has resigned amid allegations of inappropriate communications with a student, KSN has learned.

Jennings was the basketball coach at Arkansas City High School but was employed by USD 465 in Winfield.

Arkansas City Public Schools, USD 470, said it received a report of “inappropriate communication” between Jennings and a student, and both Winfield Public Schools and Arkansas City Public Schools immediately placed him on administrative leave.

The USD 470 Board of Education accepted Jennings’ resignation at a meeting on Monday night.

USD 470 said the Arkansas City Police Department was notified immediately. At this time, there is no active police investigation, but the ACPD is reviewing the matter.

“We are working closely with Winfield Public Schools and the Special Education Services Cooperative and cannot share additional details at this time. Please be assured that we take these allegations very seriously and will provide updates when possible. We appreciate our school community’s support as we address this situation,” USD 470 said in a statement.

The Arkansas City Police Department responded and said the investigation has concluded, and the case has been sent to the Cowley County Attorney’s Office.
