Local teens become viral sensations after performance at packed volleyball game

BEL AIRE, Kan, (KSNW)—The national anthem, recognizable by just a few notes, these three high school seniors never thought their rendition would be seen by the masses.

The video was viewed a combined 4.2 million times.

The vocals of Connor, Henry, and Taiton have gone far beyond Kansas- now heard worldwide.

The video has reached people from Canada to Australia.

“I definitely didn’t expect it,” said Taiton Schmidt, a Sunrise Christian academy senior.

“I didn’t even know that anybody was going to be recording, honestly, so I just was just, you know, hoping somebody would so I can send it to my family, but that’s about all I really thought of.”

Connor Sharp, who’s also a Sunrise Christian senior, says their performance was done on short notice.

“Honestly, we learned the day before that we were going to sing, and we’ve done it before, so we were pretty confident in it and were like, ‘let’s just go out there. Sing for them on the court.”

Sunrise Christian Senior Henry Hannaford said they were ready for the challenge.

“We’re not just involved with the national anthem; we sing in the choir, and most of us have done musicals at one point or another,” said Hannaford.
