TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled later this month for new affordable housing units for an area along the 24 Highway in north Topeka.

The Topeka Community Foundation announced in a press release that locals will soon be able to find new housing options at a planned apartment complex at the corner of 24 Highway and Kansas Avenue. This building will contain new units providing 216 square feet of space at the cost of $550-$600 per month, including utilities.

President of the Topeka Community Foundation, Marsha Pope, says the complex was made possible through financing from Alliance Bank and the foundation. The price tag for the project is $1 million with the foundation providing a $300,000 loan for its completion.

“Community challenges are complex and often require resources beyond traditional grantmaking,” Pope said. “Our impact investment program has the potential to create lasting and transformative changes that will benefit our community’s most vulnerable populations for years to come.”

“God’s people deserve a peaceful, quiet and secure place to stay,” said project developer Reden Jalosjos with Reden Construction. “We are building more than a structure … we are building kindness, forgiveness and hope for His people.”

The groundbreaking for the new apartment complex is set for 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. on Friday, April 26 at 117 NE Hwy 24. Speakers for the ceremony include Topeka Mayor Mike Padilla, Councilwoman Christina Valdivia-Alcala, Pope, Alliance Bank President Ben Murphy and Jalosjos.

How many bedrooms is that cause that's still a big price. And you're putting it way out there. That's gonna mean the kids are gonna have to get bust. And we know that the school districts out there aren't gonna want the children there.
