TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – Fishing comes at a cost in Kansas. However, for two days only, this activity is completely free for people to participate in.

The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks ( KDWP ) is bringing back the tradition of offering free fishing days again for the summer of 2024. The department made the dates for this year public through a social media post, naming them as Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2.

Free fishing days are exactly what they sound like: for this weekend, anyone without a license who wants to go fishing can do so. Normally, fishing in Kansas requires the angler to have a fishing license which varies in cost depending on who is applying and for what type of fish you’re trying to catch.

    • One day fishing pass, resident – $6
    • Resident fishing license – $27.50
    • 5-year resident fishing license – $102.50
    • Trout permit – $14.50
    • Paddlefish permit – $12.50
    • Hand fishing permit – $27.50

The KDWP says, while license fees don’t apply for the free fishing days, you’ll need to obey all relevant regulations such as creel and length limits. You can learn more about these by clicking here.
