MANHATTAN ( KSNT ) – A local Army Veteran is going the distance again.

In 2021, James Greer founded Ride for Veterans after reading an article that said 22 Veterans commit suicide everyday in the United States. In 2022, Greer drove to the Artic Circle and back to Kansas on a motorcycle in 22 days.

Every year since he has done an annual trip to honor veterans and raise awareness for the issues they face after their service.

This year’s ride will begin on June 12th in Casper, Wyoming. Greer and a team will drive along the historic Highway 20 Medal of Honor Highway for three days before ending their journey in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at the Harley Davidson Museum.

27 news spoke to Greer in Manhattan and he shared why a specific part from that article motivated him to start Ride for Veterans.

“I am a Combat Veteran and when I read that article it talked about 70% of those Veterans that commit suicide every year were ages 50 and older,” he said. “That was in 2016 and that meant those were the people I fought with. Those were my comrades in arms. That hit me pretty hard.”

If you want to participate in the ride and don’t have a motorcycle, Greer says you are more than welcome to make the trip in your car.
