Kansas clean energy projects get boost from the USDA

MANHATTAN ( KSNT ) – The U.S. Department of Agriculture ( USDA ) is funding three big projects in Kansas to increase access to domestic biofuels to help out the state’s farmers.

USDA Rural Development State Director for Kansas Christy Davis announced on Friday, Aug. 16 that funding is being provided for projects in Manhattan, Sedgwick and Lenexa. These investments amount to more than $900,000 and will help build biofuel infrastructure in the three cities.

“The USDA is working to lower costs for rural Kansans and expand clean energy,” Davis said. “By expanding access to homegrown biofuels, we strengthen our energy independence and create new market opportunities for farmers.”

The USDA’s announcement is coupled with projects being revealed in 25 other states across the country. The three Kansas projects include the following:

• Manhattan – $454,500
  • Funds will help make infrastructure to expand the sales and use of renewable fuels through Dara’s LLC’s fueling stations. The project will install three E15 dispensers, three E85 dispensers and two ethanol storage tanks at a fuel station in the Little Apple. This project aims to increase the amount of ethanol sold by 606,462 gallons every year.
• Lenexa – $302,500
  • This cash will help make infrastructure to expand the sales and use of renewable fuels through Berger Property Collection LLC’s fueling stations. This project will install 10 E15 dispensers, 10 E85 dispensers and 11 B20 dispensers at a fueling station in Lenexa. The amount of biofuel sold here is expected to increase by 1,944,960 gallons per year.
• Sedgwick – $145,500
  • This grant will help create infrastructure to expand the sales and use of renewable fuels through Basgall Investments LLC’s fueling stations. Four E15 dispensers will be installed at a fueling station in Sedgwick. This project aims to increase the amount of ethanol sold by 374,400 gallons per year.
