CHICAGO (KSNT ) — The first night of the Democratic National Convention kicked off Monday.

27 News spoke with Andy Bilyk, the executive director of the Kansas Democratic Party, about his thoughts heading into the first night.

“I feel very honored, excited to be on the team, helping our delegation here,” Bilyk said. “We have a really, really great diverse group of delegates. Young Democrats, old Democrats, military veterans, members of labor unions, men, women, black, white, everyone you know. All kinds of folks from around the state.”

Bilyk is excited to have a diverse group of delegates represent the Sunflower State.

“I think it brings different different viewpoints,” Bilyk said. “I think it kind of breaks through what we have here in the state and shows it off for the rest of the country.”

Bilyk also touched on the energy Kansas delegates will bring to the four-day long convention.

“We will see a very excited and energized Democratic Party, both within Kansas and nationally. We’re unified, and we’re ready to win up and down the ballot nationally, and in Kansas as well,” Bilyk said. “I can just say that our delegates are very excited.”
