OSAGE CITY ( KSNT ) – The intense heat this week could put some pressure on your garden.

We spoke with one of the owners of Osage Garden and Produce, Becky Siljenberg who said trying to keep up with the brutal heat dome currently sweeping across the Midwest.

One thing to remember during the high heat is that water is vital for healthy-looking flowers.

“So the heat is a big factor for our business, obviously,” Siljenberg said. “The heat and the breeze that we face in the South… dries out our plants a lot faster than it would. So, we have to check our plants in the morning, in the middle of the day, afternoon, oftentimes resulting in two to three times watering a day.”

Siljenberg also told 27 News mums are suffering from the current heat. Although mums are popular due to their colors and pretty looks, maintaining them when temperatures spike is challenging.

“Last week, it was beautiful and the perfect weather for mums,” Siljenberg says. “Now it’s a little too warm, but we try to keep them watered but not over watered and we try to keep the sunlight off of the ones that have blooms on them because that deteriorates the color faster.”

It’s all about maintaining moisture. She said she and her husband water the flowers multiple times a day.
