TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – The Kansas Secretary of State’s (SOS) office is releasing its final count for the 2024 Primary election Thursday.

The State Board of Canvassers, made up of the secretary of state, governor and attorney general, have reviewed the results of the Primary collected from all 105 counties in Kansas, according to the SOS. In total, 17% of Kansas voters, amounting to a little more than 336,000 people, participated in this year’s primary.

“This was the second of three elections to be conducted in 2024, the first being the Presidential Preference Primary in March,” Schwab said. “Our trained county election professionals continue to demonstrate their proficiency and knowledge in conducting elections in a safe and secure manner.”

A low amount of voters participated in the Primary, which is attributed to factors like a lack of a U.S. Senate race and no statewide election officials on the ballot. Other details of this election include the following:

    • Just over 40,000 mail-in ballots were returned out of the 58,300 issued to voters.
    • Nearly 63,000 ballots were cast advance in-person.
    • Sixteen Kansas Senate primaries were contested out of 40 districts.
    • There were 25 contested primaries out of 125 districts for the Kansas House of Representatives.
    • A close-race audit was completed for the Kansas House District 51, Republican Primary. The outcome of the race was not changed by the results of the audit.
    • A recount was done for district magistrate judge, District 17, position one. The outcome was not changed by this recount.
