TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – Law enforcement and other first responders helped rescue two women from the Kansas River Monday after they were left stranded on a sandbar.

The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office announced on social media Tuesday, Sept. 3 that a 911 call was received around 9 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 2 of two women stuck on a sandbar in the Kansas River. The women had a boat with them but became stranded due to the strong current in the water.

Deputies were called to the area, using a drone to help locate the women in the river. Other first responders with the Topeka Fire Department, Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, Silver Lake Fire Department and Mission Township Fire Department answered the call for help as well.
