10-miles of resurfacing work will slow traffic on U.S. 24 near Pottawatomie County

POTTAWATOMIE COUNTY ( KSNT ) – State crews will soon begin work on a nearly 10 mile highway resurfacing project near Wamego.

On Thursday, Sept. 5, the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) is expecting to start a resurfacing project on U.S. 24 in Pottawatomie County, according to a recent press release. Crews will be resurfacing almost 10 miles of the eastbound lanes of the highway, from Excel Road to Columbian Road near the west side of Wamego and the east side of Manhattan.

Crews will be working during daylight hours until the work is complete. The project is expected to wrap up on Saturday, Sept. 7, weather permitting. KDOT said all lanes of the highway will be open during non-working hours.

According to the news release, the active work zone will be limited to a 16-foot width restriction in one lane. Each median crossing within the project zone will be closed as work is being done.
