TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – Water issues have forced a Topeka school to close early Thursday, sending students home well before their days were supposed to end.

Dr. Aarion Gray with Topeka USD 501 shared a message sent to parents with 27 News on Sept. 5 of a water main break impacting Hope Street Academy’s school and daycare has forced it to close early. Students were released early at around 10:45 a.m. due to the situation which isn’t expected to be fixed until later in the day.

City of Topeka spokeswoman Amanda Knowland told 27 News the break was first reported around 9 a.m. near 1844 Hope Street. Crews have been dispatched to examine the area and identify the leak which is expected to take four to six hours unless “unforeseen issues” arise. The outage is impacting around 26 customers in the area.
