    Topeka man dead in Jackson County Highway 75 crash

    JACKSON COUNTY ( KSNT ) – Law enforcement has confirmed the identity of the person killed in a crash on Highway 75 in Jackson County Wednesday.

    Emergency workers, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) were at the scene of a crash at 190th Road and Highway 75 on Wednesday, Sept. 18. Law enforcement at the scene told a 27 News reporter one person died in the crash while another was transported from the scene in a helicopter to a nearby hospital for treatment.

    Jodi Clary with the KHP told 27 News the crash involves two vehicles. Highway 75 was taken down to one lane going north with traffic being directed around the crash site.

    Sheriff Tim Morse with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office announced in a press release around 1:25 p.m. that deputies were informed of the crash around 11:15 a.m. on Sept. 18. The crash occurred when a northbound Dodge van on the highway was hit by an eastbound Chevrolet pickup truck.

    Morse said a passenger in the Dodge van was killed in the crash. The driver of the van, a 26-year-old woman from Effingham, was life-flighted from the crash site to a Kansas City hospital for urgent care. The driver of the pickup truck, a 16-year-old boy from Holton, was treated by medical personnel at the scene.

    The KHP confirms the person who died in the crash is Scott E. Reaka 52, of Topeka . He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
