MANHATTAN ( KSNT ) – A major roadway in Manhattan will be shutting down for a street party this week with some new rules in place for alcohol consumption.

Heath Hnizdil with Downtown Manhattan, Inc. announced in a press release on Monday, Sept. 30 that Poyntz Avenue will be closed for a street festival called the “Block Print Party.” This is being held in conjunction with Kansas State University and Mid America Print Council from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3.

People who decide to show up for the party can expect to see live music, entertainment, more than 20 different vendors, an art scavenger hunt and printmaking demonstrations. Student art exhibits, courtesy of Emporia State University, Wichita State University and K-State, will also be on-site.

Hnizdil said a dozen businesses in downtown Manhattan will host artist work for the festival. A new business in the area, Switch Wicked at 413 Poyntz Avenue, will be open and letting the public pull their own print on totes for $10 each. Attendees will also get to see a public reception for award winning artists at the Midtown Plaza art space at 6 p.m. at 116 South Fourth Street.

The festival will also be a legal common consumption area . This means people of drinking age can buy beer and alcohol from participating establishments in the public right of way such as Bourbon & Baker, Tallgrass Tap House, Finn’s Pub, Manhattan Brewing Co. and El Patron.
