Fatal fire in Central Topeka Sunday evening

TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – An individual has been found deceased on the second floor of a house fire Sunday evening in Central Topeka at 1640 SW Buchanan St.

Topeka Fire Department responded to a call on Sunday, October 6 around 6:00 pm. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from a two-story residence. They performed a search a found a person upstairs who was later pronounced deceased.

Crews extinguished the fire and it did not spread to adjacent houses.

AMR, Kansas Gas Service, Kansas State Fire Marshal and Topeka Police Department also responded.

An investigation into the cause and death is ongoing. A KSNT crew member is on scene and we will provide updates as we get them.
