TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – Washburn University hosted its annual Capital City Marching Festival this evening on Monday, Oct. 7.

Nine high schools from all over Kansas took the field at Yager Stadium to showcase their band to a full audience. Wichita West, Junction City and surrounding Topeka high schools were amongst the nine bands who performed.

“We host this every year. It’s something we’ve been doing for 20 years,” Washburn’s director of bands, Anya Pogorelova said. “It’s pretty exciting because it gives them an opportunity to perform in a really, really nice stadium within, for some people their home town, and for some people a traveling experience.”

Admission was $10 dollars for adults and $5 dollars for children. All proceeds will go directly to Washburn University’s marching band program.
