    Shawnee County parks will close amenities for the winter

    TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – Parks across Shawnee County are getting ready for the winter season.

    According to Sean Zears with Shawnee County Parks + Recreation (SCP+R), park staff will soon be winterizing all of the restrooms and drinking fountains. Winterization means all of the non-heated restrooms will be closed and the drinking fountains will be turned off to avoid pipes freezing this winter.

    Some heated restrooms at certain parks across Shawnee County will remain open throughout the winter. A list of restrooms that will be open are below:

    Lake Shawnee

    • Marina
    • Trailhead at Ted Ensley Gardens
    • Lake Shawnee Junior Pond
    • Lake Shawnee Junior Pond
    • Tennis Courts
    • Tinman Circle

    Gage Park

    • Train Depot
    • Westlake
    • Carousel
    • Horseshoe Courts

    Shawnee North

    • Trailhead shelter

    According to Zears, winterization parks across Shawnee County will take place Tuesday, Oct. 15.
