TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – On Wednesday, the Topeka Zoo announced it had received a ‘substantial lead gift’ that will be used to work on the zoo’s next master plan.

The gift the zoo calls transformative comes from the Lumpkin Family Trust, a trust dedicated to the Grayson Goodwin Lumpkin Barn.

“This generous contribution will enable the zoo to introduce new animals, create joyous play areas, and offer innovative learning opportunities focused on conservation and environmental stewardship,” the zoo wrote in a press release.

The new project will be designed to cater to visitors of all ages by offering interactive experiences. The zoo said it will use the gift to deepen children’s and families’ appreciation for the natural world and conservation.

“Topeka Zoo will become a dynamic platform for children and families to deepen their appreciation for the natural world and the importance of conservation,” the zoo wrote.

The Topeka Zoo said it would reveal more details in the coming months. The Zoo was unable to disclose the donation amount, they said they were asked not to reveal the amount by the trust.

We have one of the worst zoos in the country. I have small children who love the zoo, but every time we go, almost 50% of the exhibits are closed. Maybe this will help, or maybe they should focus on their current animals first.
