Bighorn Sheep Coming to El Paso This Fall
July 17, 2024 – The Texas Parks and Wildlife is planning to restore bighorn sheep to the Franklin Mountains this fall. North Franklin Peak is a mountain in the Franklin Mountains. North Franklin, at 7,192 feet (2,192 m), is the highest point in El Paso, and the 27th-highest mountain in the state of Texas. It is surrounded by a state park and with a maintained trail leading to its summit, the mountain is a popular hiking destination.

H.R. “Hawk” Barnett passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, July 15, 2024. He was born on December 21, 1928, in Yantis, Texas. H.R. was a long-time member of First Baptist Church and the Radio Bible Class. By trade he was a bricklayer for many years and after semi-retirement he had a dairy and throughout his life was a beekeeper. H.R. enjoyed all his hobbies and adored spending time with his family.

AUSTIN — Free legal resources are available to low-income individuals affected by Hurricane Beryl in 17 Texas counties included in the federal disaster declaration of July 13. They include Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Matagorda, Montgomery, Nacogdoches, Orange, Polk, San Jacinto, Walker, and Wharton.
Texas Game Wardens’ Operation Dry Water Campaign Effective in Reducing BWIs
AUSTIN – Despite the landfall of Hurricane Beryl, Texas Game Wardens worked hard to keep Texans safe as they celebrated the Fourth of July on the water. Between July 4-6, 402 game wardens contacted 10,034 vessels, issued 1,326 citations and 1,794 warnings for various boating safety violations. Wardens filed 32 boating while intoxicated (BWI) charges and five driving while intoxicated (DWI) charges, two of which were drug related. Additionally, another 30 people were arrested for various other crimes.

Charles Sickles, and Ray Glen Jordan officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home. Mr. Massey passed away at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Dallas, Texas on Saturday, July 13, 2024.

Funeral Service for Claude Chapman, age 98, of Sulphur Springs, Texas will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 22, 2024 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Mt. Sterling Cemetery with Brandon Hopper, Jackson Rhyne, Jacob Bell, Joe Chapman, Lee Chapman, and Tim Sewell serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Meal-A-Day Move Gets A Big Boost
Using several pickups and trailers, the vast majority of food and kitchenware was finally transferred to the new center on 301 Oak Ave. Other volunteers, not pictured, worked to re-wash equipment and attempted to organize all the items as they arrived. A full review and organization of the items will take place this week.

Sherry Baxter was born June 17, 1936, in Sulphur Springs, Texas, where she lived her entire life on property that her family has occupied since just after the Civil War. She was married in her family’s living room to Max “Poss” Baxter from Brashear, Texas, on June 1, 1957. After her gratuation from SSHS, she completed her Batchelor’s Degree from ETSTC in 3 years. When she was a young mother, she belonged to the Mother’s Culture Club, and she was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church.

July 14, 2024 – It seems like weekly we hear of pesticide use is slowly poisoning us. This is not over the short term, but over many years. Healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables are now recognized that along with nutrients, they also come with dangerous pesticides. While our government has forced some pesticides off the market, it has been slow to move on others. Then, when one product is banned, growers often switch to another pesticide that is just as bad. Further, the government allowable intake of pesticide contaminated vegetables is generally recognized as being way too high. One reason for the high allowable intake is powerful chemical companies lobbying for their continued use.

It was chartered as The Bank of Daingerfield in 1889 but converted to a National charter in 1892 becoming The National Bank of Daingerfield. It has operated continuously since its inception weathering both the Great Depression and the banking crisis of the 1980’s. Its headquarters is in Daingerfield, the fourth oldest town in Texas. Sulphur Springs became a branch in 2009 and other locations include Omaha, Ore City, Gilmer, Farmers Branch and Austin.
