General Motors Recalls over 820,000 Trucks
March 4, 2024 – General Motors is recalling nearly 820,000 pickup trucks over a potential safety issue involving tailgates. The automaker says that the electronic latch mechanism used to open the gate of some 2020-2024 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra truck beds might short circuit if water gets into the tailgate. That means the gate could inadvertently open while the car is parked, leading unsecured property in the bed to fly out when unaware drivers hit the road.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Johnson, Johnathon Noble, Joshua Noble, Levi, Noble, Ricky Hurt, and Tyler Aaron. Services for Janie Burns Palmer who passed away in Rockport, TX February 27, 2024, a day after her 98th birthday, will be held Friday, March 8th at Spence Chapel, First Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM and service at 2:00 PM. She was born February 26, 1926 to Babe and Lola Burns in Pickton. She married Morris Palmer in 1944 in Sulphur Springs.
Polling Locations for Super Tuesday Primary Election
March 4, 2024 – Tuesday, March 5th is election day in many states, including Texas. Known as Super Tuesday, primary elections will be held in 15 states on the same day, with roughly one-third of the delegates needed for presidential nomination up for grabs. Locally, this primary election will determine the winner of many contests as most candidates are running on the Republican primary ballot with no Democratic challenger. Hopkins County registerd voters may vote at any of the following polling locations, regardless of which part of the county that they live.

High Speed Chase Ends in Downtown Commerce
March 4, 2024 – A Hopkins County Sheriff’s Deputy clocked a Ford Fiesta at 100mph in a 60mph zone heading west on Highway 11 near County Road 4724 just before 11pm Sunday night. The deputy activated his lights and siren taking off after the silver 2016 Ford but the vehicle would not slow down. As the driver, later identified as Brandon Wayne Clemins, entered into Commerce he turned onto Highway 24 and then onto the city streets. The chase came to an end down an alleyway of Caddo St as the 26 year-old driver came to a stop and was assisted out of his vehicle by law enforcement using a felony takedown protocol. Brandon Wayne Clemins was placed under arrest, transported back to the Hopkins County Jail charged with Evading Arrest w/ a Motor Vehicle. Bond has not yet been set on the third-degree felony charge.

A major benefit for gardeners is the powder is rich in calcium, and other nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium, elements all plants need. If you are looking for powdered milk, be sure to read the contents and choose a product that has been fortified with calcium. Next, read the label, and mix with water according to directions. Getting the mixture too strong will NOT help your vegetables. You can put the mixture (not straight milk) in a spray bottle and spray directly on tops and bottoms of foliage, or water the ground around the vegetable plants.

James passed away peacefully at his sister’s home at 3 a.m. on Sunday February 25th 2024 in Bagwell, TX.
