Republican Primary Ballot Propositions
February 20, 2024 – Republicans will have 13 ballot propostions to consider during the upcoming March 5th primary election. These ballot propostions are NOT legally binding, but just a way to gauge the consensus of Texas Republicans during this election on a range of topics. The following is a list of the 13 propositions that Republicans can answer on the ballot to give their opinion on topics ranging from taxes, border security, immigration and school vouchers. Early voting is now open by public appearance at 128G Jefferson St., in Sulphur Springs. Election day is Tuesday, March 5th.

Early Voting Starts Tomorrow For March 5th Primary
February 19, 2024 – Registered voters in Hopkins County can early vote by personal appearance starting on Tuesday February 20, 2024 for the March 5th Primary. Early Voting is being held at 128G Jefferson Street, in Justice of the Peace #2 Courtroom. Hours will be 8am to 5pm. Early voting for this primary ends March 1, 2024.
Reta Jane Turner
Reta Jane Turner, 89, of Sherman, TX, a woman of faith, strength, and independence, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of February 16, 2024. Born on March 6, 1934 in Matthews, MO, to Richard Bradford Pearcy and Geneva Eulala Phillips, Reta was the eldest of four sisters – Marty, Sherma and Pat, and a brother – Richard (Dickey Lynn). She graduated from Bonham High School in 1951, and quickly found her calling as a nurse, graduating from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Dallas in 1954. She went to work as an RN at Methodist Hospital, followed by Children’s Medical Center, and was the Head Nurse at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas when John F. Kennedy was assassinated. She returned to college to receive her BSN from The University of Texas at Arlington, followed by her master’s degree in nursing administration. She became a Hospital Administrator, until she retired (the first time) in 2004. She held various roles in hospitals when she came out of retirement, and ultimately became a Consultant for ASD Management, where she oversaw over half a dozen surgical centers. She retired (for the third and final time) at the age of 86.
Calvin Ray Cash
Funeral Service for Calvin Ray Cash, age 62, of Sulphur Springs, TX will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Tapp Funeral Home, Sulphur Springs, TX. Serving as pallbearers will be Cameron Horton, Jeremy Hall, Ennis Franklin, Joshua Cash, Ivan Wright and Vincent Davis. Honorary pallbearers will include Robert Franklin, Olan Wyane Nash and Pete Nash. Mr. Cash passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at his home in Sulphur Springs, TX.
Audrey ‘Sonny’ Wilemon
Audrey, age 88, was born in Hopkins County to Bill and Sybil (Gregory) Wilemon. He is survived by his son, Milton Wilemon, sister Vickie Crouch, and brother, Kenny Wilemon. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, Opal Wilemon, his sister, Virginia (Sissie) Hanson, his son, William (Willie) Wilemon, and his former wife Ellen Jones.

Paris — Here’s a look at work planned in the district for the week starting Feb. 19, 2024. These schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions, equipment failure or other unforeseen issues. Motorists are advised to remain alert and pay special attention to all signs, barricades and traffic controls, and reduce their speed as they approach and travel through work zones. They should also avoid distractions such as cell phones, eating, drinking, or car audio or navigation systems.
Suspect Charged with Murder in Another Suspected Fentanyl Death
February 16, 2024 – Tyler Bromley, 26, of Rockwall was booked into the Hopkins County Jail and is being held on $1 million bond for first degree felony murder charge stemming from a recent fentanyl overdose. Bromley is suspected of supplying the drugs laced with fentanyl that caused the death in the overdose. A new Texas law signed September 1, 2023 allows anyone who supplies fentanyl that results in a death to be charged with murder.
Kerri Burgin
Memorial Service for Kerri Burgin, age 55, of Brashear, TX will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 1, 2024 at Myra Wilson Chapel in Sulphur Springs City Cemetery with Buddy Wiggins officiating. Mrs. Burgin passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 in Plano, TX.
