Cell-O-Core Shuts Down Sulphur Springs Operations
January 4, 2024 – A local drinking straw manufacturer has shut down their Sulphur Springs plant. Ohio based Cell-O-Core expanded their operations to Sulphur Springs approximately 10 years ago under an agreement with the Sulphur Springs Economic Development Corporation. The local operation is housed on CMH drive in a building owned by the local EDC. In business since 1945, Cell-O-Core is the largest U.S. based straw manufacturer as they expanded their operations for the first time outside of Ohio ten years ago by choosing Sulphur Springs as the location to expand. KSST News was unable to reach Cell-O-Core management for more information on the company’s future plans.

A memorial service for Lisa Faye Fouse, age 54, of Cumby, TX will be held at a later date. Lisa passed away on Monday, January 1, 2024 at her home in Cumby. Lisa was born on December 5, 1969 in Cooper, TX to Wilbur Petrea and Betty (Martin) Petrea. She enjoyed spending time with her family and in her spare time, she enjoyed sitting down with a good book.
Margie Flanary
Funeral services for Margie Flanary, 82, of Yantis, TX, will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Murray Orwosky Funeral Home with Bro. Danny Caldwell officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place on Monday, January 8, 2024 at 9:30 A.M. at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Mrs. Flanary passed away peacefully on Monday, January 1, 2024 at Christus Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler, TX.

Funeral services for Nancy Jo Ferguson, 89, of Sulphur Springs, TX will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 5, 2024 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Peter McNabb officiating. A private graveside service will be held at Gafford Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Ed Lantz officiating prior to visitation and service. Pallbearers will be Landon Llewellyn, Clayton Llewellyn, Lucas Llewellyn, Cody Llewellyn, Mason Rawson, Caleb Denton and Preston Brashear.
Chanie Gale Stieber
Chanie Gale Stieber, age 35, passed away on January 1, 2024, in Sulphur Springs, Texas. She was born on July 7, 1988, in Sulphur Springs, Texas, to her loving parents Jana Gale Chaney and the late Paul Arthur Stieber. Chanie is survived by her cherished daughter Paja Annesa Gale Stieber, her devoted mother Jana Gale Chaney, her brother Joshua Paul Stieber, her nephew Camden Lane Stieber, her nieces Kaylan Gale Stieber and Landrie Dianne Stieber, her caring partner of 20 years Veronica Diosdado, and her dear son Nickolas Gage Diosdado. She was preceded in death by her beloved father Paul Arthur Stieber.

Ginn Takes Oath For Hopkins County Court At Law Judge
January 3, 2024 – Local attorney John Ginn made his committment official to Hopkins County by taking the oath at a swearing in cermony as the new Hopkins County Court at Law Judge. That positon was recently vacated by Clay Harrison, as Harrison wishes to enter private practice. 8th Judicial District Judge Eddie Northcutt presided over the ceremony as John Ginn’s wife, Eydie observed.

Funeral service for Jacob Boatman, age 38 of Pickton, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday January 6, 2024 at Shannon Oaks Church with Nolen Butler and Jeff Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Forest Cemetery with Dean Draper, Dawson Draper, Bradley Wallace, Dustin Brundage, Will Smartt, and Monte Gibson serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Journey Road boys, John Cooper, Justin Cooper, Seth Poteet, Cory Horton, Trey Clark, Brody Clark, Chase Tarrant, and Jeremy Tarrant. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2024 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home. Jacob passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023 at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler.

Baylor Emmitt Gregory is First Baby of 2024
January 2, 2024 – Sulphur Springs can say hello to the first baby born in 2024 at Christus Mother Frances Hospital in Sulphur Springs. Baylor was born at 12:43 pm on the 1st day of January and entered this world at 8 pounds, 13.8 ounces. Baylor also measured 21.5 inches long. Proud parents of the new baby are Kenneth Gregory, Jr. and Cortnie Robbins. Baylor also has three older siblings, Ferris (4), Karter, (2), and Piper (1). The first baby delivered in 2024 was Dr. James Doughtie.
LouElla Hollins
Funeral Service for LouElla Marie (Anderson) Hollins, age 91 of Sulphur Springs, TX will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 6, 2024 at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Sulphur Springs City Cemetery. Lou Ella Marie (Anderson) Hollins was born and raised in Upsher County. She was the eldest of six children raised by her mother Emma (Sidell) and step-father Louie B. Ray. As the top graduate of her high-school class, she loved reading, studying, and teaching God’s word to others. On March 29, 1952 she married Allen (Bo) Hollins, Jr. and from this union six of their own children were born. Mr. and Mrs. Hollins had beautiful singing voices and were talented musicians. Gifts they shared with their children, and as a family utilized as praise and worship leaders at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ in Newsome, TX before and after moving to Como, TX where they owned and operated their dairy farm until retirement. With Mrs. Hollins serving as office manager and bookeepers. Loving called “Mommy M” by her grandchildren. Mrs. Hollins was an example of regal fortitude, believed in unwavering self-respect and loved and protected her family with blind allidence. Like her husband Mrs. Hollins was a member of the Prince Hall affiliation family. Who served her community as a member of the Order of Eastern. She was greeted in glory by her husband Bo, sons Charles, Timothy, Vickey, granddaughter Delecia, siblings Christell, Thelma, and Lurine, niece Renee. Daughters Linda, Cynthia, Joyce, grandchildren Stephanie, Ayana, AllenLynn, Nikita, Jaylah, and Heaven. Her great-grandchildren, and beloved nieces and nephews.

David Eugene Williams, age 78, of Mount Vernon, Texas passed away on Monday, January 1, 2024, in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Visitation will be at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home on Thursday, January 4, 2024, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. The Funeral Service will immediately follow at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Pepper Puryear officiating. The Pallbearers will be Jeremy Raley, Michael Long, David Doan, Bobby Thompson, Gunner Raley, Kooper Doan and Hunter Long. Interment will be at the Mount Vernon City Cemetery.
