Paris District Road Report for week of November 13, 2023
Paris — Here’s a look at work planned in the district for the week starting Nov. 13, 2023. These schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions, equipment failure or other unforeseen issues. Motorists are advised to remain alert and pay special attention to all signs, barricades and traffic controls, and reduce their speed as they approach and travel through work zones. They should also avoid distractions such as cell phones, eating, drinking, or car audio or navigation systems.
Hopkins County CASA Cookie Walk Dec. 1, 2023
Lake Country CASA is hosting their annual CASA COOKIE WALK, Friday, December 1 st at First United. Methodist Church from 9 am – 12 pm. A variety of cookies and other sweet eats will be offered for a $10 per pound donation (or more if you are feeling generous) Dec. 1, 2022, at First United Methodist Church Family Life Center, 301 Church St. (across from the Post Office).
Dinner Bell Menu For November 15, 2023
Come celebrate our Thanksgiving meal with us! The Knights of Columbus of St. James Catholic Church have been the Community Partner for this occasion since 2017! That group of dedicated men started smoking the turkeys, the mainstay of the meal, in 2018. Dinner Bell appreciates the continued support of the Knights of Columbus.
The Genealogical Society’s City Cemetery Walk is Sunday, November 12th
The Hopkins County Genealogical Society’s Annual City Cemetery Walk will be held Sunday, November 12, 2023, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, at the Sulphur Springs City Cemetery. Cost is a $10 donation. Reserve a spot by calling 903-885-8523, or by stopping by 611 North Davis Street.
David Rodriguez
Funeral service for David Rodriguez, age 18, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 2:00 P.M on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at The Way Bible Church. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held an hour before service at The Way Bible Church. Mr. Rodriguez passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2023, in Sulphur Springs.
Jackie Ferguson
Jackie Ferguson, age 82 of Sulphur Springs, TX passed away on November 9, 2023, at Christus Mother Frances Sulphur Springs. Service will be held at a later date. Jackie was born on January 31, 1941, in Hopkins County, TX to Charlie J. and Iona (Rosinbaum) McCool. He worked as an electronic repairman.

The Funeral Service will be on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon, TX.
SS Ladies Golf Association Continues Support of In My Closet
Sulphur Springs, TX – The month of October is an important one for women’s health. It is Breast Cancer Awareness month when all women are encouraged to schedule their annual mammograms. Locally, it is the Sulphur Springs Ladies Golf Association’s annual fundraising tournament with proceeds going to Hopkins County Health Care Foundation’s In My Closet.
L. D. (Dave) Adams, Jr
L. D. (Dave) Adams, Jr., was born on October 14, 1937, in Dallas, Texas. He passed away at his home in Sulphur Springs on November 6, 2023, at the age of 86. Dave attended Crozier Tech High School in Dallas until he left to join the Army. He served from 1954 until 1957, at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Washington, and in Fairbanks, Alaska. After his discharge, he returned home to Texas, where he lived until his death.
Missing Teen Found Dead
November 9, 2023 – The missing 18 year-old Sulphur Springs High School student who walked away from his home between 2:30 and 5:30 am on November 6 has been located. Unfortunately, David Rodriguez was found deceased Wednesday. No further details have been released at this time.

Faulty Muffler Leads to Drug Arrest
November 9, 2023 – A traffic stop on Hwy 19 near County Road 4764 was initiated Wednesday evening just before 8 pm by Hopkins County Sheriff’s Deputies as a Dodge Durango was noticed to be dragging part of it’s muffler down the roadway. As the 2006 SUV turned onto the County Road, deputies noticed a black bag hurled out of the driver’s side window into the road ditch. The vehicle came to a stop a short distance later and deputies interviewed the driver and sole occupant of the car. During discussions of the faulty muffler pipe, an investigation was conducted into the object throw out of the vehicle. The littering soon turned into drug charges as a black zippered bag discovered to contain 1.33 grams of methamphetamine in a clear plastic bag.
