Texas A&M-Commerce Name Change Saga Continues
July 12, 2024 – About 200 people attended a hearing in the Sam Rayburn Student Center Thursday on the possibility of A&M-Commerce changing its name yet again. Public radio station K-E-T-R reports president Mark Rudin told the group that “Texas A&M University-Dallas ” was not the only rebranding option being discussed. “East Texas A&M University” is also among the options under consideration.
Commercial Gulf Shrimp Season Opens July 15
July 12, 2024 – AUSTIN — The Gulf of Mexico commercial shrimp season for state and federal waters will reopen 30 minutes after sunset on Monday, July 15. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s (TPWD) Coastal Fisheries Division uses data from samples collected during routine trawls and bag seines in June to determine a reopening date that best maximizes benefits to the industry and public.

July 11, 2024 – The Sulphur Springs Whataburger recently added DoorDash as a delivery option to the many ways to get your Whataburger fix. DoorDash remains the most prevalent delivery service for restaurant delivery in Hopkins County as UberEats and others don’t seem to have as many drivers. Staff at the local eatery reports that the DoorDash delivery option has been very popular since implementation, and now that McDonald’s has closed for a planned rebuild, Whataburger expects to be even busier. What is a TSI Assessment? Does Your Student Need to Take It?
July 9, 2024 – The TSI Assessment (TSIA) is the result of the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) mandated by the Texas State Legislature. The assessment is designed to guide Texas public institutions of higher education in helping them determine whether students are ready for entry-level college coursework in the areas of English Language Arts Reading (ELAR) and mathematics. Students are exempt from this assessment if they meet college readiness benchmarks on the SAT, ACT, STAAR English III or Algebra II EOCs, or successfully complete the high school College Preparatory Course. Sara Matilda James passed away on July 6, 2024. Sara James, 63, was reunited with her loved ones and friends at the Pearly Gates of Heaven on July 6, 2024. Sara James was born on November 3, 1960 in Macon, Georgia, to the late Matilda R. and William E. James. She attended Georgia Southern University where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. For 27 years, she taught science at SSISD before retiring from the public school district. She then joined Bright Star Christian School and continued teaching for another 10 years. Her beloved students knew her as Ms Blakemore or Ms James.
