Fire ants are a great nuisance in our yards and gardens, and there are several ways to control them with numerous dangerous chemicals. There are, fortunately, two control methods that don’t involve such chemicals.

Milus Neil Robinson
Milus Robinson, beloved by many went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 29th of 2024. Milus, the youngest child and only son was born November 24, 1930 to Samuel Francis (Frank) and Inez Ashberry Robinson in the Greenview community. Mr. Robinson had passed his 93rd milestone of life, which since early manhood had been spent in the service of God in the Baptist church. He served as a deacon for most of his adult years. His last church membership was at Emmanuel Baptist Church. He married Mary Nell Tubb on June 13, 1959 and remained a faithful husband for 59 years until Mary preceded him in death in October, 2018. Born to him and Mary were two children, Lou Jane Robinson Skillman (Milt) and Troy Edward Robinson (Becky). He was Papa to five grandchildren who are Sean English (Lesley) and Adam English (Tanya), Lucas Robinson (Kandace), Jo Layne Skillman and Dawn Weaver. Great grandchildren are Gregg English, Logan English, Allison English, Alan English, Preston Weaver, Evelyn Weaver, Austin Davis and Emilee Johnson. Preceding him in death are his parents, four sisters and brothers-in-law, Sarah Robertson (Cleve), Frances Wheat (John), Oleta Ashton and Bobbye Wright (Tom). After the passing of his wife, he acquired a beloved companion: His cat Smokey Joe who kept him great company for the rest of his life.

Cumby 2024 FFA Auction and Dinner to be Held May 4th
April 30, 2024 – The auction of the Cumby FFA is scheduled for Saturday, May 4, 2024. It will be held at 6pm. In 1975 the present day golf association was organized with golf rounds of a competitive nature being played the last Wednesday of the month followed by lunch. Choral Society to Present Next Concert May 4th and 5th

Expired Registration Leads to Two Arrests
April 26, 2024 – A Hopkins County Sheriff’s officer noticed a 1999 white Honda with expired registration near the corner of Houston and Church Streets. As the car turned into a mearby parking lot, the officer noticed the passenger of the Honda tossing something out of the vehicle. The officer approached the vehicle and asked the driver and passenger to exit the vehicle as a strong odor of marijuana was emitting from the vehicle. A pat down of the driver produced a small baggie of marijuana. The officer retrieved the item that was tossed out of the window, that item was identified as a chocolate bar containing psilocybin mushrooms. The driver, Seth William Albright, 21, claimed ownership of the chocolate bar and was charged with possession of a controlled substance penalty group 2 4<400 grams. The passenger, Lynox Michael Newell, 22, was charged with tampering of evidence for throwing the chocolate contraband out of the vehicle’s window. Both suspects remain in the Hopkins County jail awaiting bond to be set on the matters.
Trihalomethanes? What are they? Where are they?
April 24, 2024 – You may have seen a message about trihalomethanes on the back of your water bill. This notice is required by Federal Law. It is mandatory for all municipal water districts to notify customer when levels reach a certain threshold. Trihalomethanes can occur any time of the year, but most commonly appear in Spring and Summer months.
